Where the questions come from
All 460 questions are reproduced unchanged from the official question catalogue of the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). 300 of them are the same nationwide; the rest are state-specific, ten for each of the 16 federal states. The questions are official government works and therefore in the public domain. We neither wrote nor altered them: the wording, the answer options, and which option is marked correct all match the catalogue.
Who writes the explanations
The explanations are not part of the official catalogue. They are written for this project and set out why the correct answer is correct and why the other options are not. 460 questions currently have one. For the state-specific questions the catalogue follows a fixed pattern of ten question types per federal state. Those explanations are generated from the catalogue data itself: every claim about an answer is read out of the dataset rather than recalled from memory.
What this site cannot do
This site is not legal advice. It cannot tell you whether you meet the requirements for naturalisation, which documents your authority will ask for, or how long your case will take. For that, contact your responsible naturalisation office or a recognised migration advice service. The question catalogue can also change. Always check the current version with BAMF before your exam.
How mistakes get corrected
If an explanation is wrong or misleading, please report it through the issues on the GitHub repository. All source code and content is public, so every change stays traceable. Each explanation carries a last-reviewed date on its question page.
Independence and funding
This site is not affiliated with BAMF or any government body. It is a private open-source project under the MIT licence. There is no advertising and no tracking beyond what the optional sign-in requires. Signing in only synchronises your study progress and is not needed to use the site.
